How to choose your safe:

Not all safes are alike. Most give decent protection from fire and thieves, but like most products, you get what you pay for. Commerical safes generally give the best fire protection, with some being built to resist water damage as well, and some are specially designed to stop even the most skilled safe cracker. The safe you choose will depend on these and other criteria such as how many and what type of valuables are to be protected. For example, a home safe should be more than adequate for protecting birth and marriage certificates, property deeds or wills, but it might not be suitable in areas where flooding is a possibility. Likewise, a safe meant for commercial use may be over-kill for home use but perfect for a business that needs to prevent damage to sensitive data or electronics.

Another thing to consider is capacity. Before pricing safes, you should gather all your valuables together to see how much space you will need, allowing some additional space for new items in the future. In this regard, the size and weight of your new safe should be taken into consideration, both in terms of intended use and where it will be located.
